"God Waits to be Wanted"
I just started reading "Captivating" by John and Stasi Eldredge and let me tell you, I cannot put the book down! It's really bad because I just started up classes again for my sophomore year. The book is truly captivating. As i was reading through the second chapter, I had an "aha" moment...you know when you read something and it suddenly makes more sense to you than the other millions of times you've heard it. You probably can relate - it's that moment when you are just like "WOAH!" and you start just rambling about it to everyone who will listen and they just look at you like "ya...duh, of course." Well Anyway...here's what I realized.
We all can easily (well most of us) see God as a strong manly figure, powerful, yes gracious, but not at all in any sense womanly (don't worry I'm not at all going to start calling God a woman), but when you look back at creation, we all can agree that man AND woman were made in the image of God. Maybe this is not you, but I can easily see God's image (atleast physically) in a man because that is the way I picture him - he's my father, my protector, my strength. But this quote made me see this concept of me, a woman, having been created in the image of God.
"After years of hearing the heart-cry of women, I am convinced beyond a doubt of this: God wants to be loved. he wants to be a priority to someone. how could we have missed this? From cover to cover, from beginning to end, the cry of God's heart is, 'Why won't you choose me?' it is amazing to me how humble, how vulnerable God is on this point. 'You will find me,' says the Lord, 'when you seek me with all your heart ' (Jer. 29:13). in other words, 'look for me, pursue me - I want you to pursue me.'"
So this is my "aha" moment. This is how I am created in the image of God uniquely as a female. In relationships, I want to be pursued and I long to be the beauty in a story,...and so God created us females that way. We represent God's beauty and artistic hand. And just like guys, we want to be a part of a great adventure and story, just in a different way. It's cool how without women, man is only part of the image of God, and vice versa. Guys want to fight for something great, beautiful, and us girls, well, we want to be fought for, we have a longing to be the beauty in the story.
In realizing this, I have connected with God in a whole new way. All of us know the yearning in our hearts that says "Why won't you choose me?" and "Look for me, pursue me" and we want to be wanted. And usually we want that from the people around us. That is probably why "Wanted" by Hunter Hayes is so popular among the ladies. :)
Well God wants to be wanted too. God doesn't just say "Oh well." when we reject Him. Yes, he pursues us, but He also longs for us to pursue Him back. I don't know about everyone else, but I want to be a priority and important enough for someone to pursue my heart. I want to know someone "gets" me and sees my heart because it gets so misunderstood by people all the time. How much more does God get misconstrued. His vulnerable arms are open wide for everyone, and so many of us don't understand his great love for us and his longing for us to pursue him back. He never had to have relationship at all with us, but he sacrificed everything just to have us mock him and leave him hanging.
I don't know if any of that made sense but that is my thoughts for the day. I'll leave it with this:
